Canto Alto, Mountain peak in Bergamo Alps, Italy.
Canto Alto is a mountain peak in the Bergamo Alps reaching 1,146 meters and offering views across Bergamo and the Brembana and Seriana valleys below. Several hiking trails lead to the summit, with the Monte di Nese route covering about 3 kilometers of walking distance.
During the Middle Ages the mountain served as a strategic observation post with a wooden watchtower that was later replaced by a stone fort. These fortifications were crucial for monitoring the valleys in the Bergamo region.
The metal cross at the summit commemorates soldiers lost in both World Wars and victims of the Dalmine bombings that affected the region. Visitors come to reflect on these events while enjoying the views from above.
The hike requires a moderate level of fitness, and it is best to wear proper hiking boots and bring plenty of water. The warmer months offer the most pleasant conditions for the climb and descent.
The summit is the highest point in Parco dei Colli di Bergamo and ranks among the most notable peaks in the local mountain range. Despite its geographical importance it remains less known than other mountains in the area.
