Santa Chiara, Renaissance church in Old Town Bari, Italy.

The church features unwhitewashed stone walls and a single nave interior with eight side chapels decorated with polychromatic marble altars.

Originally dedicated to Santa Maria degli Alemanni and managed by Teutonic Knights, Pope Innocent VIII transferred the church to Poor Clares in 1492.

The wooden jalousies above side chapels allowed cloistered nuns to attend mass celebrations while maintaining their separation from public view.

The church stands at the intersection of Strada Tresca and Strada Santa Chiara, near the Norman-Swabian castle in central Bari.

The bell tower connects the church to an adjacent convent that now functions as a daily soup kitchen serving meals to people in need.
