Monte Gioco, Mountain summit in Province of Bergamo, Italy
Monte Gioco is a mountain summit in the Prealpi Orobie at 1366 meters elevation with several trails ascending through dense forest to the peak. The terrain features steep slopes, and the paths wind through different vegetation zones along natural routes that follow the mountainside.
The mountain served as an important crossing point for trade and movement between villages in the Bergamo area since medieval times. Routes were formed over centuries by herders, merchants, and locals who established fixed paths across the highlands.
The name Monte Gioco means Game Mountain, reflecting a long tradition of herders and walkers who have used this place for generations. The paths around the summit are valued by locals and visitors as spaces for shared outings, where people experience nature and the surrounding villages together.
Spring and autumn offer the most favorable conditions for hiking, with stable weather and comfortable temperatures. Multiple starting points provide access, and it is wise to wear proper footwear and bring enough water, as some sections of the trail are steep and slippery.
On clear days, the summit offers views of both the jagged peaks of surrounding mountain ranges and the flat Padana Plain stretching below. This contrast between high mountains and wide open lowlands makes it a distinctive vantage point in the region.
