Monteacuto

Monteacuto is a hill region near Berchidda that extends from Monte Santo plains toward Olbia. It includes a valley south of the Limbara mountain range, featuring wooded areas and natural reserves.

A significant castle once stood on the hill during medieval times, serving as a control point against Balari and Corsi uprisings under Roman rule. This stronghold was a key defensive position in the region's troubled past.

The area displays two distinct speech patterns that shape daily life across its communities. You hear a Sardinian-Corsican dialect in the east, while standard Sardinian is spoken in the west.

The Coghinas River divides the territory into two administrative zones, with the western section connected to Sassari and the eastern part linked to Olbia-Tempio. This geographic division affects accessibility and route planning when exploring the area.

The Monte Lerno State Forest was established in 1904 and shelters a rare mix of Atlas cedars, cork oaks, holm oaks, pine trees, and chestnuts. This ancient woodland is a botanical treasure that many visitors overlook.
