Lake Coghinas, lake
Lake Coghinas is an artificial reservoir in Oschiri created by damming the Coghinas River. Water comes from 2 river sources and the lake can hold up to 254 million cubic meters, while shores are surrounded by Mediterranean shrubs, oak, and cork oak forests.
The lake was created by a dam completed in 1927, measuring 185 meters long and 58 meters high. This construction followed a hydroelectric plant built 3 years earlier and supplied the region with power for local development.
The lake takes its name from the Coghinas River that feeds it. Locals and visitors use this place as a quiet gathering spot where people walk, picnic, or simply sit by the water and watch the sky change throughout the day.
The lake is easy to reach and suitable for families and anyone wanting to enjoy nature at their own pace. Visitors find simple walking paths, picnic spots, canoe and kayak rentals, and fishing locations.
On the lake's eastern side stands an old villa from the early 1900s that once belonged to the hydroelectric plant operator. The abandoned power station building nearby in historic style recalls when it still generated electricity for the region.
