Parco regionale storico di Monte Sole

The Historical Regional Park of Monte Sole spans 6,300 hectares across the valleys of Reno and Setta rivers in the Bolognese Apennines.

Between September 29 and October 5, 1944, Nazi forces executed hundreds of civilians in Monte Sole, leading to the establishment of this memorial park in 1989.

The territory contains archaeological remains of ancient Etruscan settlements, including Pian di Misano, which served as a trading center between central Italy and continental Europe.

Visitors can reach the park by train from Bologna, with regular connections to nearby stations, and explore numerous marked trails through the protected area.

The park houses 936 plant species, representing one-third of Emilia-Romagna's total flora, alongside diverse wildlife including wolves, deer, and sixty bird species.
