Santa Maria del Fonte Sanctuary

The sanctuary features a Latin cross layout with a single nave, ionic pillar capitals, and a dome reaching 64 meters in height.

Construction of the current sanctuary began in 1575 under Archbishop Carlo Borromeo, following designs by architect Pellegrino Tibaldi, continuing into the early 1700s.

The sacristy contains notable frescoes by Camillo Procaccini depicting scenes from Mary's life, while Giovanni Moriggia and Luigi Cavenaghi decorated the main temple.

The religious complex includes facilities for pilgrims, a marriage counseling center, and regular prayer services with daily bell ringing at 5:00 PM.

The underground Sacred Font marks the location where, according to Catholic tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to peasant girl Giannetta de' Vacchi in 1432.
