Santa Maria del Binengo

Santa Maria del Binengo is a shrine with Renaissance architecture in Sergnano, displaying harmonious proportions and a central window featuring the characteristic Serlian motif. A detached bell tower stands beside the building.

The site was first documented in 1022 under the name Albeningum, marking the early history of the location. The current building was constructed during the 15th century, replacing earlier structures at this spot.

The interior holds colorful terracotta sculptures from the 15th century, including a venerated Madonna above the altar. These pieces served as important religious objects for believers from the surrounding area.

The building is accessible for visits during regular hours for worship and private prayer. Visitors should note that special liturgical celebrations throughout the year may affect general access times.

The sanctuary walls display extensive frescoes by Cremask painter Aurelio Busso depicting biblical scenes and religious figures. These wall paintings cover nearly every available surface inside, giving the space its distinctive visual character.
