Palazzo comunale

The Palazzo Comunale is the town hall of San Miniato, located on via Vittime del Duomo in the heart of the city. The building combines a modern facade with painted wall sections and commemorative plaques that record the site's long history.

The building dates to the 14th century, when San Miniato was an important administrative center in Tuscany. During this period, the city controlled surrounding territories and used the palazzo as the seat of its local government.

The Council Hall contains frescoes by Francesco Cenni showing the Madonna with Child surrounded by Cardinals and Theological Virtues.

The building still functions as a town hall and is accessible to visitors, though it remains an active workplace. It helps to check beforehand which areas are open to the public and during which hours.

Hidden beneath the Council Hall lies the Lorentino Oratory, which contains architectural elements from different building periods. This lower chamber reveals how the structure evolved across centuries of changes.
