Santa Maria delle Vergini, Macerata

Santa Maria delle Vergini displays Mannerist architecture with harmonious proportions at the intersection of Via Lattanzio Ventura and Via Galasso da Carpi.

Construction of the current church structure began in the 1550s under architect Galasso Alghisi, replacing a smaller religious building from 1335.

The interior features a notable canvas of the Adoration of the Magi created in 1587 by Renaissance master Tintoretto.

The church maintains its position as an active religious site in the southeast section of Macerata's historic center.

An embalmed crocodile, brought from the Holy Land, remains preserved within the church as an unusual historical artifact.
