Fiume Adige tra Belluno Veronese e Verona Ovest

The protected site along the Adige River stretches across about 476 hectares between Belluno Veronese and Verona West. The river landscape displays diverse habitats including riparian vegetation, sandy banks, and reed zones that shift with water level changes.

The area was designated as a Site of Community Importance in 2006 and received Special Area of Conservation status in 2018. This recognition followed the need to protect the sensitive river landscape and its species over the long term.

The site serves as a breeding and stopover ground for numerous bird species that migrate through depending on the season. Visitors regularly spot herons and kingfishers, which benefit from the river water and dense vegetation.

The site is best accessed from the towns of Belluno Veronese or Verona West, where several entry routes are available. Bird watching works best during early morning or evening hours, when birds are more active.

Beneath the surface, old canal tunnels link the Adige River to Lake Garda and divert water to prevent flooding. This hidden engineering work from the 20th century remains invisible to most visitors yet shapes the water management of the entire region.
