Teatro Popolare Samonà, Modern theatre in Sciacca, Italy
The Teatro Popolare Samonà features three intersecting geometric shapes: a parallelepiped, a cone, and a pyramid, forming a bold architectural statement.
Construction of the theatre began in the 1970s after the demolition of the neoclassical Teatro Politeama Mariano Rossi, but remained incomplete until its opening in 2015.
The theatre includes detailed marble decorations depicting an eye, an ear, and a bucranium, created by Alberto Samonà and Giuseppe Bentivegna.
With a main hall accommodating 980 spectators and a secondary hall for 230 people, the venue hosts theatrical productions and cultural events.
A white marble stele at the main hall entrance displays a drawing by Ben Shahn alongside the theatre's floor plan.
