Teatro Popolare Samonà

The Teatro Popolare Samonà is a modern cultural venue in Sciacca featuring three geometric shapes that define its form: a parallelepiped, a cone, and a pyramid create a bold architectural composition. The complex contains two performance halls, with the main hall seating around 980 people and a smaller hall accommodating about 230 spectators.

Construction of the building began in the 1970s following the demolition of the neoclassical Teatro Politeama Mariano Rossi but proceeded slowly over decades. The venue finally opened to the public in 2015, reviving the city's cultural infrastructure.

The theatre displays marble decorations featuring an eye, an ear, and a bull's head on its interior walls. These artworks by Alberto Samonà and Giuseppe Bentivegna shape how visitors experience the space.

The venue is accessible on foot from central Sciacca and sits in an area with good walkability. It is worth checking what performances or events are scheduled before visiting, as it operates as an active cultural space.

At the entrance to the main hall sits a white marble panel displaying a drawing by Ben Shahn alongside the theatre's floor plan. This unusual pairing links art with the architectural design of the space.
