Abbazia di San Michele di Lamoli

The monastery complex includes a church with three naves, a raised presbytery, and a crypt containing medieval sculptures and frescoes from the Umbrian school.

Founded in 543 CE after Saint Benedict's death, the abbey received official recognition in 1218 and controlled several surrounding castles in the medieval period.

The church interior features 15th-century Umbrian school frescoes depicting Madonna with Child, Saint Julian, and Saint Roch, plus a wooden crucifix.

The abbey requires specific navigation routes from the Adriatic coast, with potential road closures near Bocca Trabaria pass affecting access from Umbria and Tuscany.

A tempera painting of the Eternal Father with Angels by Raffaelin del Colle returned to the church through an unusual circumstance: a repentant thief left it behind.
