Museo della carta di Toscolano Maderno, Paper industry museum in Toscolano Maderno, Italy
The Museo della carta di Toscolano Maderno occupies a 3,500-square-meter space within the former Maina Inferiore paper mill. It displays traditional and industrial paper production methods through preserved machinery and equipment from different periods.
Paper-making in Toscolano Maderno began in 1381 and shaped the valley for centuries. The last factory in Paper Mill Valley closed in 1962, ending industrial production in the region.
The museum displays rare volumes printed by Paganini publishers and maintains an interactive station where visitors can experience daily life in historical paper manufacturing.
The museum is easily reached on foot from the town center and offers guided tours in multiple languages for visitors of all interests. A tourist train also connects from Town Hall Square for convenient access.
A striking chimney from the early 20th century rises from the grounds and documents the industrial power of that era. Historical demonstrations show how paper was made by hand in earlier times.
