MAS 96

MAS 96 is an Italian torpedo boat from the early 20th century now displayed at Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera. The small vessel spans about 16 meters in length and roughly 3 meters in width, showing how technically advanced such warships were for their time.

The boat was built in 1917 at the Orlando Brothers Shipyard and was one of many similar vessels deployed during World War I. After the war, it survived and eventually became part of the collection at Vittoriale.

The vessel sits at Vittoriale degli Italiani, where it demonstrates how Italian naval engineers designed compact fighting ships. You can observe the tight quarters where the crew worked and lived during missions.

The boat can be viewed from outside and partially from inside, though the walkways are narrow and require careful movement. It is best to wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore all areas of the vessel.

The vessel carries the motto 'Memento Audere Semper' carved into its hull, reflecting the mindset of its crew. This inscription is one of the few personal details the ship has preserved to the present day.
