Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, hotel in Bellagio, Italy
The Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is a neoclassical building in Bellagio on the shore of Lake Como. It sits on a promontory where the lake splits in two, combining an original 19th-century palace with later additions that include extended wings with views of water and mountains.
The building was constructed between 1851 and 1856 as a private villa for the Frizzoni family, designed by Rodolfo Vantini. In 1872 it was purchased and converted from 1872 to 1873 by Giovanni Ceruti and Ercole Balossi Merlo into a hotel, adding spacious wings in the process.
The hotel's name connects it to a nearby villa and the legacy of wealthy families who shaped this area. Visitors experience a setting that recalls the era of grand estates, where refinement and careful attention to detail are visible throughout the spaces.
The hotel sits directly on the lakeshore within large grounds and offers easy access to gardens and Bellagio's lakeside promenade. Rooms are generously sized with visibility from the water, making it simple to spot the building when arriving by boat.
The building first opened in 1854 to celebrate the birthday of a nobleman's wife, long before becoming known as a hotel. This early opening shows how the place already attracted visitors with its grandeur and refinement.
