Cappella dell'Annunziata, Gothic chapel in Cori, Italy

Cappella dell'Annunziata is a simple chapel with a single nave and vaulted ceilings, built from limestone and tuff stone materials. The interior space contains Gothic architectural details and painted surfaces that cover the walls, forming a modest but complete religious structure.

A cardinal initiated construction of this chapel in the early 15th century, positioning it near one of the city gates along a major road connecting Cori to Rome. This strategic location made it a significant religious stop for travelers and merchants passing through the area.

The interior walls display late Gothic frescoes depicting scenes from both the Old and New Testament, with figures of saints and apostles separated by painted columns. These paintings reveal how the community used visual storytelling to teach religious narratives to visitors who entered the chapel.

Access to the chapel is gained by climbing a staircase that leads to the entrance, where the emblem of the ancient municipality is displayed. The interior is compact, so visitors should allow time to carefully observe the painted surfaces covering the walls.

A limestone shelf above the entrance bears an engraved olive branch connecting to Saint Oliva, the city's patron saint. This small detail links the religious structure to local devotion and shows how personal faith was worked into the building's design.
