Kobe Port Tower, Observation tower in Meriken Park, Japan

Kobe Port Tower is an observation tower in Meriken Park with a red latticed hyperboloid structure rising 108 meters (354 feet) into the sky. The steel structure contains eight observation floors and features two elevators to carry visitors to each level.

The tower began operations in 1963, representing a major development in Kobe's port infrastructure and urban renewal. This structure became a landmark during the city's transformation into a modern maritime center.

The tower's shape draws from traditional Japanese drums used in Noh and Kabuki performances, blending this cultural reference into modern design. You can see this inspiration clearly in the tower's distinctive hyperboloid form.

Two elevators provide access to the observation floors, moving visitors up quickly and smoothly. Visit on clear days to enjoy the best views across the harbor and cityscape.

The first observation floor features a glass walkway that reveals the ground 75 meters (246 feet) below when visitors step on it. This glass feature creates a thrilling sensation for many people.
