Minase Shrine, Shinto shrine in Shimamoto, Japan
Located at the foot of Mount Tennō, Minase Shrine stands among residential neighborhoods, surrounded by dense Japanese forests and traditional architecture.
Founded in 1240 by Minase Nobushige, the shrine was built to honor Emperor Go-Toba, who spent considerable time at the Minase Imperial Villa.
The shrine houses three deified emperors - Go-Toba, Tsuchimikado, and Juntoku - and maintains structures designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
Visitors can access the shrine daily, with the main office operating between 9:00 and 16:00, and the sacred water collection permitted from 6:00 to 17:00.
The shrine gate features a handprint attributed to Ishikawa Goemon, a notable figure in Japanese folklore, marked on its right pillar.
