Fukushima station, railway station in Fukushima-ku, Osaka, Osaka prefecture, Japan, operated by JR-West
Fukushima Station is a railway station in the Fukushima district of Osaka, Japan, served by both JR and Hanshin lines. Passengers can change between the two networks here, making it a practical transfer point for travel across the city and toward Kobe.
The station opened in 1895 as part of the Osaka Railway network, one of the early private rail companies in the region. It later became part of the national rail system and was gradually updated as the city grew around it.
The station sits in the Fukushima district, a neighborhood known for its many small restaurants and drinking spots tucked into narrow alleys. Many people pass through here in the evening on their way to dinner, giving the area around the exits a lively after-work feel.
The JR and Hanshin lines have separate entrances and ticket gates, so it helps to know which line you need before arriving at the station. Signs are posted in both Japanese and English, making it straightforward to find the right platform.
Although both stops share the Fukushima name, the JR station and the Hanshin station are not physically connected and require a short walk outside to transfer between them. This surprises many first-time visitors who expect a single shared building.
