Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Cultural History

The Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Cultural History occupies a classical architecture building with a restored dome and decorated stone facades in downtown Yokohama.

Originally constructed in 1904 as the Yokohama Specie Bank headquarters, the building survived the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake and transformed into a museum in 1967.

The museum displays over 6,000 ukiyo-e prints from the Tanba Tsuneo collection, alongside exhibits chronicling the evolution of Kanagawa from ancient times.

Located near public transportation stations, the museum opens six days per week, offering guided tours and educational programs for school groups and international visitors.

The structure represents the first Meiji-era building with its surrounding grounds to receive designation as a National Historic Site of Japan.
