NYK Maritime Museum

The NYK Maritime Museum is located on the first floor of a historical building and displays an extensive collection of ship models and navigational instruments from different periods. The rooms provide an overview of how Japanese shipping developed through original objects and documents.

The museum was founded in 1993 and documents the development of Japan's shipping industry through the history of the Nippon Yusen Kaisha company. It focuses on the role this company played in building modern shipping routes.

The exhibits feature detailed builder's models of ships, vintage cruise ship brochures, postcards, and navigation equipment that show how Japan developed its maritime trade over time.

The museum is located two minutes on foot from Bashamichi Station and is easy to reach. Visitors should check opening hours before visiting since the rooms are not open every day.

The museum underwent extensive renovation and redesign during a prolonged closure. After reopening, it features updated exhibitions presented with modern display techniques.
