Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse is a complex of two restored brick buildings in Shinkō, Yokohama, that now hold shops, restaurants, and exhibition halls near the harbor. The buildings stand side by side and are connected by a paved outdoor plaza that opens toward the water and provides direct views of the bay.

The two warehouses were built in 1910 as customs facilities during Japan's phase of industrial modernization. After decades of other uses, they were renovated and reopened in April 2002 as a commercial and cultural center.

The complex attracts couples and young adults who browse shops and dine on outdoor terraces overlooking the harbor. When festivals or markets occur, the open plaza between the buildings becomes a meeting point for families and visitors from across the city.

The site is easy to reach by train, bus, or water taxi connecting several parts of Yokohama. Most shops and restaurants open in the morning and close in the early evening, though some events may run later.

The buildings earned recognition as Heritage of Industrial Modernization sites and received the BCS Prize for architectural quality. At night, the facades are lit, highlighting the red brickwork against the dark sky.
