Kanagawa Prefectural offices

The Kanagawa Prefectural Office is a five-story administrative building with geometric art deco patterns across its facade and a height of about 49 meters. The structure includes a basement level and a public exhibition space dedicated to local history.

This structure was built in 1928 after the Great Kanto Earthquake destroyed its predecessor. It represents the fourth generation of the prefecture's administrative headquarters and marked a period of rebuilding and architectural renewal in the city.

The building demonstrates how Japanese architects blended local structural traditions with European influences after the earthquake. This fusion is visible in the facade details and helped shape Yokohama's modern identity.

The building sits two minutes on foot from Nihon-odori Station and is easily accessible during weekdays. Visitors can explore the historical exhibition and enjoy views from the rooftop overlooking the harbor and surrounding area.

The rooftop provides sight lines to Yokohama Bay Bridge and Red Brick Warehouse, forming part of a notable towers trio in the city. These vantage points make it a popular spot for photographers wanting to capture Yokohama's skyline.
