Yokohama Silk Museum, Textile museum in Yamashitachō, Japan

The Yokohama Silk Museum presents exhibits focused on silk production processes, including spinning, weaving, dyeing techniques, and traditional manufacturing methods.

The museum opened in 1959 on the former location of Jardine Matheson & Co., a British trading firm, marking the centennial celebration of Yokohama Port.

The exhibition spaces display silk kimonos from the Edo Period alongside modern textiles, illustrating the evolution of Japanese fashion through centuries.

Located three minutes from Nihon-Odori Station, the museum welcomes visitors from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with admission fees of 500 yen for adults.

Live silkworms form part of the permanent exhibition, allowing visitors to observe the complete silk production cycle in real time.
