Yokohama Air Cabin, Urban aerial tramway in Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan.
Yokohama Air Cabin is an urban aerial tramway in Naka-ku, Yokohama, linking Sakuragichō Station with the Yokohama Cosmo World amusement park over a distance of 635 meters (about 2,080 feet). Passengers sit in enclosed cabins attached to steel cables, moving slowly above streets, buildings, and pedestrian zones.
The system began operations in April 2021 as part of a plan to ease visitor flow between the railway station and the leisure district. It was among the first permanent urban cable car installations in a major Japanese city.
The gondolas float above one of the city's busiest streets, offering passengers a direct view of daily life unfolding below them. Pedestrians and cyclists on the route underneath often watch the cabins glide overhead.
The journey takes around five minutes and moves at a moderate pace, giving passengers enough time to enjoy the views. Cabins have windows on all sides, making it easy to take in the surroundings.
The cabins move at a speed of about 2.5 meters per second (roughly 8 feet per second), slow enough to notice details on the ground below. A total of 36 cabins circulate on the line, each holding up to eight people.
