Yokohama Cosmo World, Amusement park in Minato Mirai 21, Japan.
Yokohama Cosmo World is an amusement park in Shinkō, Japan, that sits along Yokohama Bay and offers over thirty rides and attractions across its grounds. The layout divides into three zones aimed at different age groups and interests, with the large Ferris wheel standing as the central feature.
The park opened in August 1990 as part of the redevelopment of Yokohama's former port area into a modern leisure and business district. The Ferris wheel was later replaced with a larger version that also functions as a working clock.
The name contains 'Cosmo' which reflects the original theme linking space exploration with entertainment concepts that Japanese designers favored in the early 1990s. Families often visit during evening hours when the illuminated wheel creates a visual landmark across the waterfront.
Admission to the park is free, with visitors paying only for individual rides or purchasing tickets for multiple attractions. Most rides operate in good weather, while some close during strong winds or rain.
The Ferris wheel reaches a height of about 113 meters (370 feet) and displays the current time through colored light patterns on its gondolas. This function makes it the largest clock of its kind worldwide, visible from different points across the city.
