Oiwake Station, Railway station in Abira, Japan
Oiwake Station is a railway station in Abira with four platform tracks located on the Yufutsu plateau in Hokkaido. The facility sits at an elevation of 48 meters and is served by both the Muroran Main Line and the Sekisho Line.
The station opened on August 1, 1892, marking the start of rail service in the Abira region. The railway line played a key role in developing this part of Hokkaido during the late 1800s.
The station is closely connected to the nearby D51 Railway Museum, which tells the story of rail transportation in the region through exhibits. Visitors can see how railways shaped the development of Hokkaido.
The station is straightforward to navigate, with clear signage and regular train connections to several destinations. Visiting during daytime hours gives access to the museum and all station facilities without any complications.
The adjoining museum houses a preserved D51 320 locomotive, a rare example of Japanese steam engine engineering. Alongside the locomotive, visitors can also see engineer uniforms and signaling handlamps that span different eras.
