Kurume Castle, Japanese castle in Kurume, Japan.
Located on Sasayama Hill overlooking the Chikugo River, Kurume Castle features stone walls and remaining foundations built with regional materials.
Built in 1587 by Kobayakawa Hidekane, the castle served as a command center until its demolition in 1871 during the Meiji Restoration period.
The castle site contains the Inui Gate, which was moved to Nichirinji temple, and multiple stone-clad ramparts that display traditional Japanese fortification methods.
Visitors can explore the stone walls and remaining structures without guide ropes, allowing direct contact with the historical fortification elements.
The castle complex included seven interconnected watchtowers in its main bailey, with the three-tiered Tatsumi-yagura being the largest defensive structure.
