Tiroru no Mori, Agricultural theme park in Shiojiri, Japan
Tiroru no Mori is a theme park in Shiojiri with four separate zones featuring alpine-style buildings, flower gardens, animal areas, and craft workshops. The grounds include restaurants and feeding stations where visitors can interact with animals while exploring the different sections.
The park opened in 1999 with inspiration drawn from Austria's Tyrol region and its alpine heritage. It closed in 2020 due to economic challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic, ending more than two decades of operation.
The name comes from Tyrol in Austria, and visitors can see this European mountain connection reflected throughout the architecture and craft workshops. The practice of making bread and sausages on site shows how deeply the park drew from alpine farming traditions.
The park is about 15 minutes by train from Shiojiri Station and offers free parking for around 1800 vehicles. Visitors should note that opening hours are limited and vary by season, so checking ahead is helpful.
The site reopened for several summer months in 2024 following requests from elementary school students at a youth council meeting. This unusual intervention by children shows how much the park still matters to the local community.
