Aeon LakeTown, Shopping center in Koshigaya, Japan
Aeon LakeTown is a retail complex with three connected shopping wings in Koshigaya, featuring more than 700 stores, restaurants, a cinema, a department store, and a supermarket. The separate sections link together through covered walkways and bridges, allowing visitors to move easily between the buildings.
The complex opened in October 2008 as Japan's first large environmentally oriented shopping center and used solar panels on the roofs from the start. The location beside the man-made Koshigaya Lake was part of a city redevelopment plan that aimed to link residential areas, commercial spaces, and recreation zones.
The name comes from nearby Koshigaya Lake, which lies right next to the buildings. Visitors find garden markets with typical Japanese plants and decorative items, as well as outdoor picnic areas that families especially use on weekends and outings.
The complex sits about 50 minutes by train from central Tokyo and connects directly to Koshigaya Lake Town station. Shops typically open at 9 in the morning and close at 10 in the evening, with some restaurants staying open longer.
The three building sections are named Kaze (Wind), Mori (Forest), and Outlet, with each area having its own atmosphere and target audience. Between the passages sit benches facing the water, inviting rest during quiet moments on a long shopping day.
