Mazak Art Plaza, Modern office skyscraper in Aoi district, Nagoya, Japan
Mazak Art Plaza is a skyscraper in the Aoi 1-chōme district of Nagoya that combines office space with art gallery floors. The gallery sections occupy dedicated floors within the tower and are separate from the commercial office areas.
The building opened in February 2010 and brought a new type of tower to the eastern part of Nagoya. It was part of an urban development that introduced a mixed-use model to this part of the city.
The fifth floor holds a collection of French paintings spanning three centuries, with works from Rococo, Romanticism, Neoclassicism, Realism, and Impressionism. The display invites visitors to compare styles side by side as they move through the room.
The building is an easy walk from Shinsakae-machi Station on the Nagoya Subway Higashiyama Line, making it a convenient stop on a city visit. The route from the station is straightforward, and the tower is visible from a distance.
The underground museum section uses a geothermal system for temperature control rather than conventional air conditioning. This keeps storage conditions for the artworks stable while using less energy than standard methods.
