Nakano Sun Plaza, Concert hall and hotel complex in Nakano, Japan.
The Nakano Sun Plaza is a concert hall and hotel complex in the Nakano district of Tokyo, rising 22 floors above ground with 3 basement levels. The hall offers 2,222 seats equipped with modern sound systems for a wide range of performances and gatherings.
Architect Shōji Hayashi designed the multipurpose building, which opened on June 1, 1973, and served the community for five decades. The complex closed in 2023 after a long run as a major performance venue in Tokyo.
The concert hall served as a recording venue for live albums by Sarah Vaughan and Scorpions, capturing their performances for international audiences. The stage also hosted the final concert of U2's War Tour, adding to the building's reputation among music fans worldwide.
The venue sits two minutes from the north exit of Nakano Station, making it easy to reach by public transport. The facility operated until its closure in 2023, so checking current status before visiting is advisable.
Before closing, the complex organized a series of farewell concerts called Sayonara Nakano Sun Plaza Ongakusai featuring Japanese performers. These concerts gave fans a final opportunity to experience the hall in its original form.
