Sendai-ko Chuo Park, Coastal park in Miyagino district, Sendai, Japan.
Sendai-ko Chuo Park is a waterfront park located along the harbor in the Miyagino district of Sendai, Japan. It is made up of open green spaces, sports courts, children's play areas, and fishing spots that face the open water.
The park opened in 1988 and quickly became part of everyday life along Sendai's harbor. The 2011 tsunami caused severe damage, and the site was rebuilt in stages before fully reopening by 2015.
Fishing is a common activity here, and locals often spend hours at the water's edge watching the port traffic while waiting for a catch. The mix of sport courts and open green areas means the park draws very different kinds of visitors on any given day.
The park is reachable by bus from Sendai Station, with the nearest stop at Yume Messe Miyagi, and walking between the different zones is straightforward. Restrooms and sports facilities are available on site, so no special equipment is needed to enjoy a full visit.
From certain spots near the water, you can watch large cargo ships passing through one of the busiest ports in northeastern Japan while sitting on a park bench or fishing from the shore. Few city parks anywhere offer this kind of direct view of an active working port from a relaxed, open setting.
