Ancient Lotus Park

Ancient Lotus Park is a garden park in Gyoda featuring multiple ponds with thousands of lotus plants across different varieties. The grounds also include areas with peonies, plum trees, and cherry blossoms that change with the seasons.

The park preserves lotus plants descended from seeds discovered during archaeological excavations in the region. These seeds represent plants that thrived in the area centuries ago.

The site blends traditional Japanese garden design with water gardens where lotus flowers bloom throughout summer months. Local visitors and tourists come to observe the changing seasons reflected in the garden spaces.

The best time to visit is during early morning hours when the lotus flowers are fully open, which occurs during the blooming season. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring water, as much of the park has limited shade.

The grounds feature large-scale rice paddy artworks visible from an observation deck that create detailed patterns and images. These living artworks are created by planting different rice varieties in contrasting colors.
