Kinosaki Marine World

Kinosaki Marine World is a public aquarium in Toyooka featuring a 12-meter-deep main tank arranged by the depth zones where marine species naturally live. The facility displays creatures from the Higashiyama coast in their preferred environments, allowing visitors to observe them from different viewing levels.

The facility opened on May 21, 1934, making it one of Japan's earliest aquarium projects. Over the decades, it evolved from a basic marine exhibition into an interactive institution with shows and educational programs.

The Regional Message Zone displays Toyooka's natural landscapes through projection mapping, connecting visitors to the region's relationship with its wildlife and environment. The facility explains how local communities have historically depended on and respected the sea and its creatures.

The facility offers hands-on activities throughout the day such as catching and eating Japanese horse mackerel, dolphin shows, and walking with penguins. Weather and season affect which activities are available, so it helps to stay flexible with your schedule.

The facility includes a foot bath supplied by mineral water from 20,000-year-old underground layers, offering visitors a surprising way to relax while exploring the aquarium. This geothermal water connection makes the place unusual among similar institutions.
