Yotsugibashi, Road bridge in Yahiro and Yotsugi, Tokyo, Japan
Yotsugibashi is a road bridge crossing the Arakawa River and linking the Sumida and Katsushika districts via Japan National Route 6. It handles both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, connecting several neighborhoods on the eastern side of Tokyo.
A wooden structure from 1922 was replaced by a steel truss bridge in 1952, marking a shift toward modern infrastructure. This reconstruction allowed heavier and faster vehicle traffic between the eastern districts of Tokyo.
The name Yotsugibashi comes from Yotsugi, referring to four trees and evoking the farming roots of this area. The bridge now serves as a daily crossing for local residents and workers moving between neighborhoods.
The bridge offers good access to nearby bus lines and train stations serving the area. Be aware of heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic during rush hours, which can make crossing busier.
The bridge played a key role in transforming surrounding farmland into a modern residential area after World War Two. This shift shaped the growth of these eastern districts for decades to come.
