埼玉縣立熊谷高等學校, Public high school in Kumagaya, Japan
This prefectural school stands in the Ohara district and includes several sports fields, a swimming pool, and a large library with many media resources. The campus stretches across multiple buildings connected by walkways and courtyards.
Classes began on June 1, 1895, marking the opening of the first public secondary institution in this part of Saitama Prefecture. Since then, the institution has educated generations of students in the northern area of the prefecture.
The school organizes an annual exchange with a partner institution in New Zealand, where students live with host families for several weeks and attend classes together. During their stay, young people also learn about Māori culture and join shared activities with local schools.
From Kumagaya Station, the campus is about a 25-minute walk or a 10-minute bus ride from platform 6 at the Asahi bus terminal. The grounds are usually closed to visitors during the day, except during special events or with prior arrangement.
Since 2011, the institution holds the official designation of Super Science High School, which comes with expanded programs in mathematics and natural sciences. Participating students work on research projects and visit university facilities to gain hands-on experience.
