Kawasaki Freight Station, freight station in Kawasaki, Kanagawa prefecture, Japan
Kawasaki Freight Station is a goods station in Shiohama, Kawasaki, Japan, where trains carry cargo and containers across the region. The facility features multiple tracks, loading docks, and organized cargo areas designed for smooth transfer between rail, truck, and ship transportation.
The station opened in 1964 to support goods transport across the region and was initially operated by Japanese National Railways. Since 1987, the Japan Freight Railway Company has managed it while adapting operations to meet growing industrial shipping needs.
The best vantage points are the pedestrian bridge near Kojimashinden Station or along the eastern fence of the yard. Freight trains run infrequently, typically in the afternoon, so checking the published schedule and allowing time for waiting is advisable.
The location served as a filming site for Japanese movies and television series from the Showa era, particularly the Ultra Series, which used the period scenery as backdrop. Parts of the original marshalling yard retain their old appearance today with original tracks and structures from that era.
