Koyaike Park, Urban park in Itami, Japan
Koyaike Park is an urban park in Itami, Japan, centered around a large pond with bridges and viewing platforms throughout. The grounds include an insect museum with a butterfly house at the edge of the park area.
The pond was built during the Nara period by Buddhist priest Gyoki to prevent flooding in the area. The surrounding grounds opened as a public park in 1972, making the site accessible to visitors.
The park takes its name from the pond that remains at its center, home to swans and other waterfowl throughout the year. Locals walk the waterside paths and watch the birds, especially during migration seasons.
Entry to the park is free, with 150 parking spaces available for visitors arriving by car. The adjacent insect museum charges 400 yen for adults and houses live butterflies.
From June to July, fireflies appear in the park square, offering a rare natural display within the city. The swans in the main pond remain year-round and are easy to spot for visitors.
