Meiwa Bridge, road bridge in Edogawa city, Tokyo, Japan
Meiwa Bridge is a road bridge in Nishi-Mizue and Ichinoe in Tokyo that crosses the Shin-Naka River. It features a distinctive form with four towers and measures approximately 137 meters long and 16 meters wide, with a steel braced arch structure weighing around 784 tons.
The bridge was completed in 1992 as a relatively modern addition to local infrastructure. It became part of a network of crossings over the Shin-Naka River that helped improve connections between neighboring areas.
The bridge carries the name "Yutori to Nigiwai," meaning a feeling of relaxation mixed with liveliness, a message displayed on a plaque here. This reflects how locals and commuters use the space as a moment of pause in their daily routines.
The flat concrete and steel construction makes it easy for pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely. The bridge is located near Ichinoe Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line, making it conveniently accessible.
The bridge was once lit up with lights at night to make it more visible, but these lights were turned off to save power. This change shows how everyday infrastructure adapts to local needs and environmental considerations.
