楊梅の滝, Multi-tiered waterfall in Otsu, Japan
The Yobai waterfall system consists of three distinct cascades: the 40-meter male fall, 21-meter Yaken fall, and 15-meter female fall, totaling 76 meters in height.
In 1554, Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru visited this location and officially named it Yobai waterfall, marking its significance in Japanese regional history.
Local folklore tells of two serpent spirits inhabiting the falls, with a one-eyed female snake deity residing in the female fall and a male snake deity in the male fall.
The waterfall is accessible through a hiking trail from JR Kitakomatsu Station, with parking available for five vehicles near the entrance point.
The waterfalls flow over granite formations from the Cretaceous period within the Biwako Quasi-National Park special protection zone.
