Kotozuka Kofun, Archaeological burial mound in Gifu, Japan
The Kotozuka Kofun stretches 150 meters in length and features a three-tiered structure with both square and circular sections visible from an aerial view.
Construction of this burial mound dates back to the mid-4th century AD during the Kofun period, when regional leaders established their authority through monumental tombs.
Excavations at the site uncovered burial chambers containing iron swords, jade balls, Haji ware pottery, and terracotta haniwa figures representing humans and tools.
The site now functions as a public park with walking paths and information panels that detail the archaeological findings and structural features of the ancient tomb.
Agricultural activities have buried portions of the original structure, leading to reconstruction efforts that aim to display the tomb's believed initial configuration.
