Morioka General Arena, Sports and music complex in Morioka, Japan
Morioka General Arena is a sports and music venue in Morioka that features multiple halls arranged for different types of events. The facility accommodates up to 5,058 attendees and includes conference spaces for various functions.
The arena began as an ice sports facility when it opened in 1989, serving local figure skating and hockey communities. Major renovations in 2017 transformed it into a multipurpose venue that could host diverse entertainment.
Since 2016 the arena has carried the name Morioka Takaya Arena, bought by the local construction firm Takaya; the contract was renewed in 2019 and 2024 at 4.8 million yen a year. The Iwate Big Bulls basketball team has used it as its main home court since the 2017-18 B2 season, and in 2018 it hosted a Davis Cup World Group first-round tie between Japan and Italy.
On foot from Morioka Station's west exit via Morinōhashi it is about 25 minutes, roughly 2 km. Buses 218 and 219 (Morioka Minami Loop 200) leave from stands 5 and 10 at the station's east exit and stop at Sōgō Arena-mae. By car it is about 15 minutes from Morioka IC and 10 minutes from Morioka-Minami IC; the lot holds around 400 cars and is normally free, but is restricted during large concerts, when shuttle buses may run.
