岩手県民会館, Performance hall in Morioka, Japan.
Iwate Prefectural Hall (岩手県民会館) is a performance venue in Morioka, the capital of Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan. It has a large main auditorium with red decor and a smaller secondary hall with blue-themed seating.
The hall opened on April 1, 1973, and was built to serve as a cultural center for the whole Tohoku region. Over the following decades it grew into the main venue for the performing arts in northeastern Japan.
The hall hosts performances across many genres throughout the year, from classical concerts and opera to traditional kabuki theater. Visitors stepping inside often find audiences that follow both local and international artistic traditions.
The hall is roughly a 10-minute drive or a 25-minute walk from JR Morioka Station, making it easy to reach from the city center. The building has wheelchair access and multipurpose restrooms, so most visitors can move around without difficulty.
The main auditorium can be rearranged using movable partition walls, so the layout changes depending on the event. This kind of flexibility is relatively uncommon for a prefectural hall of this size in Japan.
