Tonomi Palisade Site is castle ruins from the 11th century located on elevated terrain in Kanegasaki. Remains of dwellings and defensive structures spread across a large area, showing how a medieval fortress was organized and built.
History
The site was built by the powerful Abe clan in the 11th century when they controlled six districts and constructed twelve fortifications. After a military victory, Minamoto no Yoriyoshi took control of this strategically important fortress.
