Sobue, dissolved municipality in Nakashima district, Aichi prefecture, Japan
Sobue is a dissolved municipality in the Nakashima district of Aichi Prefecture, Japan, now absorbed into the city of Inazawa. The area sits on flat land and is made up of residential streets, farmland, and traditional houses that together give the former town its recognizable appearance.
Sobue was founded as a village in 1889 and became a town in 1896. In 2005, it merged with surrounding municipalities and ceased to exist as a separate administrative unit.
The name Sobue is rooted in local history and still appears on street signs and small roadside shrines throughout the area. Walking through the old neighborhoods, visitors can notice traces of a farming way of life that once shaped how people spent their days here.
The area is best explored on foot, as the streets are narrow and easy to walk through at a slow pace. It is worth allowing extra time to wander through the quieter back roads, where small shrines and old houses are easier to spot.
Even after the official merger in 2005, many residents of the area still use the name Sobue to refer to their neighborhood within Inazawa. This attachment to the old name shows up in everyday life, for example in the names of local shops and community groups.
