福聚寺

Fukuju-ji is a Buddhist temple in Miharu featuring extensive grounds with multiple religious structures and spaces. The most prominent element is an old cherry tree that has stood on these grounds for many decades, serving as a focal point for visitors.

The temple's cherry tree dates back over 300 years, creating a living link between past visitors and those who come today. This ancient tree has witnessed the continuous spiritual practice that has defined the site throughout the centuries.

The temple honors Acala, known in Japan as Fudo Myoo, a Buddhist figure representing wisdom and protection. Visitors witness how daily rituals and ceremonies keep this spiritual tradition alive within the temple grounds.

The temple is accessible by car from the Koriyama-Higashi interchange in approximately 30 minutes, or visitors can take a train to Koriyama Station and arrange local transportation from there. The grounds are best explored on foot, and spring is the ideal season to visit when the cherry tree is in bloom.

In spring, yellow canola flowers bloom alongside the cherry blossoms from mid to late April, creating a striking natural color contrast on the temple grounds. This seasonal display adds an unexpected layer of beauty that many visitors discover only when they arrive during this period.
