Château d'Akizuki, Medieval castle ruins in Wakayama, Japan

The castle grounds contain stone walls and moat remnants extending 20 meters east to west and 54 meters north to south at the site location.

The fortress was constructed between 1489 and 1492 by Toshitsura Kuni to protect Hinokuma and Kunikake shrines during the Warring States period.

The castle represents defensive architecture of feudal Japan, with its strategic position and layout reflecting regional military practices of the period.

The castle site sits along Wakayama Prefectural Road 145, known as Miya Street, providing direct access for visitors to explore the remaining structures.

The castle functioned as a subsidiary fortress of the Ota clan until 1585, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi's campaign in Kishu region led to its abandonment.
