Nagatoro Valley

Nagatoro Valley is a natural canyon along the Arakawa River where distinctive rock formations shape the landscape. The river has carved and sculpted stone over time, creating the natural formations that visitors see today along the banks.

The rock formations developed through erosion over millions of years as water and geological forces slowly reshaped the stone. These long processes continue to influence how the valley looks and changes over time.

The valley draws many visitors in spring when cherry blossoms frame the rock formations and the site becomes an important destination for nature lovers. Pink petals reflect in the water and create a special experience that brings people back year after year.

The valley is best explored on foot, with walking paths along the river offering different views of the formations. Sturdy shoes are recommended since some paths cross stones and uneven ground.

The Iwadatami rocks form natural patterns that resemble the regular structures of Japanese tatami mats. This comparison gave the rocks their name and makes the site particularly interesting for visitors.
